Last week on the blog, we talked about what God’s word is. We went in depth about where God’s word is found and about the importance of God’s word. If you missed the blog post, you can check it Here. In this week’s blog, we’ll be covering what we’re expected and commanded to do with God’s word. We’ll have a better understanding of how to read, meditate, study and use God’s word.
This week, let’s learn how to actually meditate on the word of God day and night. Let’s learn how to be ‘doers of the word’, meaning that let’s actually do what the word of God commands us to do. Just like it says in James 1:22 in the NIV version “Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says”. In the next two verses in that same text, it went on to say that “anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like someone who looks at his face in a mirror and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like”. If we’re going to read God’s word then we need to be ready to do what the word ask of us. If we’re not ready to put the word in practice in our lives then there’s no point for us to read the word.
Furthermore, James 1:25 in the NIV version went on to say, “But whoever looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues in it–not forgetting what they have heard, but doing it–they will be blessed in what they do”. So there’s great benefits in doing what the word of God commands us to do. Yes, it won’t be easy to do but it is very beneficial for us to do. And if we want to be true servants of Christ, then we have to do what His word ask of us.
Throughout the Bible, we’ll find where God’s word commands us to follow what it says. In the book of Proverbs 4:20-22 in the NIV version, it says “My son, pay attention to what I say; turn your ear to my words. Do not let them out of your sight, keep them within your heart; for they are life to those who find them and health to one’s whole body”. Another great benefit of following God’s word, it will literally bring life and health to your body. In Luke 11:28 in the NIV version, it says, “Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and obey it”. In Matthew 7:24-27 in the NIV version, it stated that those who put the word of God into practice are just like a wise man who built his house on the rock. when the storm comes, although it’s around the house but the house stands firm on the foundation of the rock. But those who hear the word but do not put them in practice are just like a foolish man who built his house on sand. And when the storm passes through his house then that house get destroyed.
Therefore, let’s be doers of the word of God. Let’s meditate the word of God day and night. Let’s actually do what the word of God commands us to do. Although it’s not an easy task to do but it can be done and it is for our great benefit. Just like we did last week, let’s continue to open up our Bible to read the word of God everyday this week. This week, let’s read the word day and night. For example; in the morning before you start your day and at night before you go to bed. And let’s strive to do what the word of God commands us to do.
Say this prayer with me:
Father God, we thank You for another blessed prosperous week. Once again in Your mighty hands we lay our lives and our upcoming week. We ask You to help us be doers of Your word. Give us wisdom and understanding to comprehend Your word correctly. Help us to put Your word into practice everyday in our lives. In Jesus name we pray. Amen!
